Old Earthworm Jim sketch

It’s just occurred to me that I’ve posted a couple Princess What’s-Her-Name illustrations, but never Earthworm Jim himself!

Despite the super suit designed by Professor Monkey-For-A-Head that Psy-Crow was supposed to deliver to the Evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-Filled, Malformed, Slug-For-A-Butt giving him a humanoid appearance, Jim is still just an Earthworm who can enter and exit the neck hole of the super suit at will. I did not have to look up the Evil Queen’s full name when typing the previous sentence. The EWJ games were definitely designed by crazy people.

This one is from very shortly after I moved to Arizona in 1996. Maybe from 1997, or 1998 at the absolute latest. I definitely remember the markers I used to color the blue and yellow bits of the costume. Also, you can see me trying to figure out line weights on the bicep and pectoral muscles of the super suit.

There hasn’t been much EWJ anything going on for like 20 years outside of some Graphic novels.

Earthworm Jim 4 is coming soon to the Intellivision Amico, as Tommy Tallarico, Intellivision’s current CEO, was the music composer for the first 2 EWJ games. Maybe this will be the shot in the arm the franchise needs?

Also, I know I’m posting this on April Fool’s Day, but I’m not shitting you. This is a real thing that’s happening. Check the YouTube trailer below from Intellivision’s official YouTube channel (at least for as long as the video is on YouTube):

I mean, really. Professor Monkey-For-A-Head. That’s an actual character name.

How can you NOT want more games with that level of insanity?
