Mondo Gecko is the “Rip-Roarin’, Skateboardin’ Reptile.”
And that’s it. That’s his personality. He’s a late 80s/early 90s surfer dude that got mutated into a gecko, and he rides around on a rocket-powered skateboard.
But that’s enough.
When I was mucking up TMNT repaints, I had to do one of Mondo. Instead of his rather generic yellow shirts, I figured I’d give him one that was a little more updated,a nd made him one of a “Mutation”-brand skate shirt, in the style of the “Affliction” shirts that were popular at the time.
“At the time” being the operative phrase, because, dang, those things came and went pretty fast, huh?
If you’re surfing in the sewers, you’re gonna get mucky. And so Mondo did.
I’d like to take another pass at this character sometime, but given how much the price of vintage TMNT figures have inflated on the secondary market, I dunno that I want to pay modern-day new toy prices for a thing I’m just going to paint up.
